Foxmaking

I had the bodies for these foxes waiting to be dressed in my studio for the longest time. They were sitting naked on a shelf, and last week I decided that now that the weather is getting cooler I decided it was time for them to get clothes and and knit scarves. I really enjoy making tiny clothes and accessories for my dolls, and I want to share a bit of the process that went on creating the dolls. I create the clothes for my dolls by hand, cutting tiny pieces of fabric and then hand stitching them to create the perfect outfit that will match the personality of each one of the dolls.   You can see that I...

Welcome to Darknita Art, the dark side of Danita

Depression has circled around me for the longest time, and I found that donning an armor of paint and using my scissors, needles and brushes as my weapons, I was able to keep the darkness at bay.On my darkest hours my deepest fears, my darkest horrors and the most dreadful voices talk to me. When it begins, I feel the descent to darkness and there's noting I can do, except get ready to battle the dementors that will come after my soul. Frida and the watercolors

This year I decided to travel more to get myself more experiences, and to look for inspirations and ideas on different places. This time, I visited Mexico city and made a pilgrimage to "La casa azul" (Frida's blue house) There is an exhibit with dresses that she wore and I just had to be there. I came back inspired and filled with an urge to get my hands on my paints and brushes to create. If I haven't painted in a while, I will get my watercolor out and I will start experimenting with them, I love the way it swirls and runs on the paper and it always gets me in the mood to make beautiful things. After a...

Back to my first love. New Paintings!

Those who know me already know I am pretty much like Forrest Gump. (Well, not quite, I'm brighter... I think) The scene where he runs and runs and runs and runs and then he stops pretty much sums up how I work. I started making dolls and switched my paintbrushes and paint jars for needle and thread and made and made and made and made dolls. Until I stopped. And if you ask me why, I'm going to give you the same answer Forrest gave. Because I got tired. And then I move on to something else. I felt like I needed to paint, so I painted. And I see a change on my work once I got back to it. In the beginning it...
